Food Insecurity Bill second reading is scheduled for 26 October

Food insecurity is the true scale of hidden hunger and not simply the number of people using foodbanks. It is thought to be much greater than the latter and to tackle the problem it needs to be measured. 1

The UN estimates that over 8 million people in the UK are food insecure. 2

Mrs Emma Lewell-Buck MP for South Shields and Shadow Minister for Children and Families is sponsoring a Private Members’ Bill, the Food Insecurity Bill, which should have had its second reading on 2 February 2018 but was delayed due to time constraints. The bill is now expected to be read on 26 October 2018. 3 It has cross party support with more than 150 MPs calling for the measurement of household food insecurity in the UK.  Mrs Lewell-Buck will campaign with End Hunger UK. 4
